# About Keep86

> Keep86 is a small, independent Mac app made by [LEGAL ENTITY]. It exists because macOS 28 ends Rosetta for apps, and many people still depend on Intel-only software they paid for. Keep86 keeps those apps working in a hidden macOS 27 virtual machine, for personal use, without requiring you to learn how virtual machines work.

## Why we are building Keep86

Apple has announced that macOS 27 is the last release that supports Rosetta for apps. From macOS 28, Intel-only apps won’t open on Apple silicon Macs (Apple keeps Rosetta only for some older games). Some of these apps have native versions; many don’t — older Office and Adobe versions bought outright, tools whose developers have moved on, and utilities for devices that still work well.

The usual advice is to install a virtual machine. That works, but it means running a second Mac desktop in a window and working inside it. Keep86 handles the virtual machine for you and keeps it out of sight: your older apps appear on your normal desktop and open from the Dock, as before.

## Why a crow

Crows collect things they value and remember them for years. Ours holds a floppy disk, which stands for the old software you want to keep. The crow is our own character. Keep86 is not affiliated with Apple Inc., and we keep any reference to Apple out of our name and logo.

## Our commitments

- **Honest compatibility.** An app is marked “works” only after we have tested it ourselves. Every entry in the compatibility database shows its source and the date it was checked.
- **Your version stays yours.** On the 6-month and annual plans, Keep86 keeps working with the last version you received after you stop paying.
- **Privacy.** Your apps and documents never leave your Mac. The licence check sends only what it needs; see the privacy policy.
- **Personal use, as Apple’s licence requires.** Apple’s macOS licence allows macOS virtual machines for personal, non-commercial use, so that is what Keep86 is for. No business plans, no marketing to companies.
- **No invented claims.** No fake reviews, user numbers or test results — on this site or anywhere else.

## Who makes Keep86

Keep86 is made by [LEGAL ENTITY]. [FOUNDER STORY — to be written by Andrei]

## Current status

Keep86 is in development. The first version is planned for October 2026, before macOS 28 is released. We are testing it on Apple silicon Macs with real apps and will publish the results in the compatibility database as we go.
